NHPC is a Mini Ratna Category-I listed enterprise of the Govt. of India. It was incorporated in 1975 with an objective to plan, promote and organize an integrated and efficient development of hydroelectric power in all aspects. Later on NHPC expanded its objects to include other sources of energy like Geothermal, Tidal, and Wind etc.

Presently NHPC is engaged in the construction of 10 projects aggregating to a total installed capacity of 4502 MW.  It has 15 hydro power station situated in different parts of the nation. The true strength of NHPC lies with its 11,350 strong skilled manpower. It boosts an efficient team of 200 HR executives. The company constantly endeavours to maintain employee morale and it has undertaken numerous HR initiatives to create an ideal work atmosphere and create a perfect work – life balance. The organisations strong H.R policy and system has also been reengineered to meet the organisation requirements and wages/perks of the employee of all categories have been revised.

The company was conferred with India power award 2010 by Council of Power Utilities for its outstanding work under corporate social responsibility. it was also conferred with the ‘Gentle Giant award’ under non-manufacturing mini ratna category by Dalal Street Investment Journal in 2011. NHPC was also given the CIDC Vishvakarma Award 2011 under the category of Social Responsibility.
